Celebrate Earth Day

The Apalachicola Reserve collaborated with Florida DEP Waste Reduction and Recycling Education to bring together various environmental partners in an Earth Day celebration located at Riverfront Park in Apalachicola. Participating partners included Keep Florida Beautiful, Keep Franklin County Beautiful, Florida Corps, City of Apalachicola, City of Apalachicola Parks Committee, Franklin County Solid Waste, Florida Native Plant Society – Sarracenia Chapter, Florida State Parks, Apalachicola Riverkeeper, City Recycling Group, and the Florida State University Coastal and Marine Laboratory.

Visitors were invited to bring a glass bottle to recycle in exchange for a free plant. Additionally, educational tables provided information on numerous topics such as oyster shell recycling, Vertical Oyster Gardens (VOGs), Apalachicola Bay restoration, recycling in Franklin County, native plants, and sustainable landscaping.

The Apalachicola Reserve provided visitors with various information pamphlets and goods, including trash bags for boaters. Four different kinds of native seed packets were also available to take, with almost all of them being gone by the end of the event! We are grateful to all partners that participated and guests who came by to celebrate our planet.
