CPR-funded Project Update: NSU

The Coral Protection and Restoration Program (CPR) continues to administer state and federal funding to implement priority reef management and research objectives. One funded project led by Nova Southeastern University (NSU), titled Abiotic Influences Along Southeast Florida Coral Reef Communities, includes collecting abiotic data and sedimentation rates at six coral reef sites and five sites that connect the inland water to the reef. Limited abiotic data exists for nearshore coral reef habitats, particularly for a contiguous time series. This data will help identify the volatile, ephemeral nature of this environment. These photos show the instrument and sediment trap platforms and the maintenance required during data collection. Sedimentation rates (g/day) are determined for each site.
