Duck Derby
The Wekiva River Aquatic Preserve (WRAP) participated in Mead Botanical Garden’s annual Duck Derby, an educational, family-oriented event that drew more than 3,000 attendees from across Central Florida. The event featured three duck races along with a wide range of activities designed to engage participants of all ages in outdoor recreation and environmental awareness. WRAP staff hosted an interactive outreach booth focused on protecting the Wekiva River and its surrounding basin. Activities included river-themed trivia, hands-on arts and crafts and opportunities for attendees to take the Aquatic Preserve Protector Pledge. Staff engaged directly with community members to share information on how everyday actions, such as proper waste disposal, reducing single-use plastics and preventing stormwater pollution, can positively influence water quality and sustain Florida’s aquatic ecosystems.
