Living Shorelines Training Workshop

Northeast Regional Aquatic Preserve Manager Irene Arpayoglou attended the Central Indian River Lagoon Living Shorelines Training Workshop, hosted by Florida Sea Grant for contractors and members of the public. The workshop explored the benefits of living shorelines, presented a range of design options and components, and guided participants through the permitting processes that make these projects possible.

Through hands-on instruction and discussion, participants gained insight into how nature-based solutions—such as planting coastal vegetation and integrating oyster reefs—can work with natural processes to stabilize shorelines, improve habitat, and enhance resilience. By bringing together experts, practitioners and community members. The workshop highlighted the power of collaboration in applying “engineering with nature” approaches to protect Florida’s dynamic coastlines.
