St. Joseph Bay State Buffer Preserve
Each year, Buffer staff welcomes Dr. Tom Miller and his FSU research students for a weekend of learning. Dr. Miller is a professor of biological sciences who has been conducting research and taking a vegetation census in our area since 1999.
The specific project chosen for this year involved looking at marine worms in the sediments of SJB. These worms are “ecosystem processors” that affect nutrient dynamics in the sediments and the overlaying waters. The class determined their densities and spatial patterns around sea grass beds.
FSU Biology students study organisms in marine sediments in St. Joe Bay. Young scientists in training who will do research in our area. Their future research and teaching may affect the SJB Buffer Preserve and Aquatic Preserve.
