14th Annual Southeast Florida Reef Cleanup
On July 14th, the Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP) along with Friends of Our Florida Reef and Southeast Florida Action Network (SEAFAN) successfully held the 14th Annual Southeast Florida Reef Cleanup. Five dive shops participated throughout Palm Beach County, Broward County and Miami-Dade County, including, DECO Divers, ACE Diving, Pura Vida Divers, Kyalami Divers, and Sea Experience. Together, they raised awareness about the importance of Florida’s Coral Reef, documented the types of debris collected, and weighed it. All of the data will be compiled and utilized as a resource to guide future cleanup initiatives.
At all five locations on Sunday, CRCP staff connected with local professionals and recreational divers to share fun facts about the recently designated Kristin Jacobs Coral Aquatic Preserve, debris clean up resources and other efforts conducted by DEP over the last year to reduce marine debris build up on Florida’s Coral Reef.
