Message From The Manager
Alligator Harbor Aquatic Preserve very much represents the natural beauty of North Florida. The relatively undeveloped lands surrounding Alligator Harbor aid in preserving the peaceful idyllic conditions encountered on its waters. Its shallow sand bars and Phipps Preserve, located at the tip of Alligator Point, provide essential habitat for a number of migratory nesting shorebirds. Clam and oyster aquaculture leases dot the waters of the harbor, highlighting the importance of preserving water quality both to the residents and wildlife that call the area home. The saltmarsh habitat that rings Alligator Harbor supports various species of wading birds and invertebrates. Turkey Shoal, located in the waters outside of the harbor, is directly influenced by the Gulf of America and is home to lush seagrass beds that support marine life from scallops to speckled trout to tiger sharks. This little-known body of water represents one of the Florida Panhandle’s best kept aquatic secrets.
Sincerely,
Megan Christopher
