DEP at ReeFLorida Symposium
Last week, DEP participated in the third annual ReeFLorida Symposium at the Philip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science (Frost Science), including leadership from ORCP and the Southeast Region and staff from the Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP). The Symposium brought together coral reef scientists, practitioners, advocates and resource managers to discuss the latest science, collaborate on conservation initiatives and trouble-shoot common challenges in the field.
ORCP Director, Alex Reed, gave the opening plenary and began by welcoming the 200+ attendees and providing some background to the State’s investment in Florida’s Coral Reef, including the coordination role the State plays as well as the diversity of projects funded by DEP. She also announced the 50th anniversary of the Aquatic Preserve Act in Florida and introduced participants to the Governor’s Florida’s Coral Reef Restoration and Recovery Initiative.
