Researcher for a Day

Guana Tolomato Matanzas Estuarine Research Reserve (GTMNERR) Water Quality Manager Katrin Villinger and Volunteer Coordinator Abby Kuhn hosted Pam Shipley, the winner of Friends of GTM’s “Researcher for a Day” fundraiser prize. Pam tagged along on a portion of the Guana Water Quality run, where she rode on the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) airboat and took water quality readings with the YSI during the sampling event. She learned about all the research projects at GTM Research Reserve, FWC’s role in Guana Lake management and the further volunteer opportunities available. Pam is local to the area and lives along Guana Lake. Her husband and she are very passionate about the Guana system, and Pam intends to write an article for their small newsletter about what she learned from this experience. She hopes this will lead to further public involvement with the reserve.
