Northwest District Open House

In December North West Florida Aquatic Preserves staff participated in the annual DEP Northwest District’s Open House.

To raise awareness about our work as a native plant nursery, the Northwest Florida Aquatic Preserve team brought a selection of native plants grown at our nursery, including Spartina alterniflora, Spartina patens, Muhlenbergia capillaris, Sesuvium portulacastrum and Sporobolus virginicus. We had many conversations about living shorelines, erosion control, and habitat restoration while connecting with the community and DEP staff from other programs. These connections have already led to follow-up conversations, including assistance with native plant selection for restoration efforts in nearby state parks.

This was a great opportunity to connect with fellow DEP programs and the public.
