Message From The Manager

Pellicer Creek Aquatic Preserve is a quiet gem of the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve. Multiple conservation lands surround the main stem of the creek, protecting the waterway and providing access to recreational opportunities. The relatively untouched watershed that flows into the Matanzas River gives a glimpse into the coast’s wild history and continues to provide habitat for wildlife, healthy fisheries and natural areas for public recreation.

The National Estuarine Research Reserve’s System-Wide Monitoring Program measures short-term variability and long-term changes in the estuary to gain a better understanding of how our estuaries function, change over time and to predict how coastal systems respond to natural and human-induced change. Pellicer Creek provides the perfect location to conduct this study, and we will continue to share the knowledge we gain with our community. Future research in this region will be driven by local stakeholder needs.

Sincerely,

Matthew Bernanke
