Message From The Manager

As an aquatic preserve manager, one of the most surprising things I’ve discovered is that I didn’t even know aquatic preserves existed until I started working at one. Growing up in Northeast Florida, I spent as much time as possible outdoors, always near the water. Yet, I had never heard of the Fort Clinch or Nassau River-St. Johns River Marshes Aquatic Preserves. With 43 aquatic preserves across the state, many of them may quietly thrive, offering beauty and value that locals might not yet fully recognize. However, these places are undoubtedly some of the most beautiful and valuable spots, whether people realize they are protected or not. The designation doesn’t make them special — they’ve always been extraordinary. Designation as an aquatic preserve simply acknowledges their importance and ensures they’re protected for future generations to enjoy. I feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to give these special places a voice and to help preserve them for everyone to appreciate and experience.

Sincerely,
