Duck Derby

The Wekiva River Aquatic Preserve (WRAP) participated in Mead Botanical Garden’s annual Duck Derby, an educational, family-oriented event that drew more than 3,000 attendees from across Central Florida. The event featured three duck races along with a wide range of activities designed to engage participants of all ages in outdoor recreation and environmental awareness.

Field Trips

The Wekiva River Aquatic Preserve partnered with Rollins College’s Environmental Studies Department to host two different field trips – Nature Spirituality and Environmental Crisis in its Cultural Context. Nature Spirituality students arrived at Wekiwa Springs State Park an hour before the park opened for sunrise meditation followed by discussions about Wekiwa Springs’ cultural, historical and environmental significance.

Latino Heritage Week

On Friday, Sept. 19, 2025, Central Florida Aquatic Preserve (CFAP) helped facilitate a water conservation outreach event for Latino Heritage Week at Wekiva Island. CFAP hosted a group of high school students from Alianza Americas. The students participated in an Eco Paddle to Wekiva Springs State Park. Then, they learned how to measure water quality with CFAP’s datasonde.
