Dear Visitors and Partners,
Welcome to the Wekiva River Aquatic Preserve, one of Florida's most cherished and ecologically significant natural resources. As the manager of this exceptional preserve, I am pleased to extend my gratitude for your continued support in protecting and preserving this unique environment for generations to come.
"A trip on the Yellow River is like going back in time. Its tall-forested banks, pristine water quality and productive fishing create a place one can go to be completely surrounded by nature. The Yellow River Preserve is one of Florida's most precious contributions it has for its future generations."
- Ernie Rivers, River Keeper and Bream Fisherman Associate of Northwest Florida
Alligator Harbor Aquatic Preserve very much represents the natural beauty of North Florida. The relatively undeveloped lands surrounding Alligator Harbor aid in preserving the peaceful idyllic conditions encountered on its waters. Its shallow sand bars and Phipps Preserve, located at the tip of Alligator Point, provide essential habitat for a number of migratory nesting shorebirds.
Along with the Guana Buffer Preserve, the Guana River Marsh Aquatic Preserve serves as the hub and headquarters of the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTM Research Reserve). The estuary and uplands of the Guana River has been a valued resource for centuries of human populations with many changes taking place over time.
